Department Announcements WORD MASTERS CHALLENGEMany Knox County Elementary Schools will be participating in the WordMasters Analogy Challenge. This challenge is a national competition for students in grades 3-8 which encourages growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning. Unlike other language-arts contests, which emphasize grammar and punctuation, this competition addresses higher-level word-comprehension and logical abilities and helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically.
The competition does this in two ways: 1) It challenges students to solve analogies based on relationships among words they have learned, and
2) It draws these analogies from special vocabulary lists, which students have six weeks to study before each challenge.
There are 3 challenges held throughout the school year. For more information contact the Talented and Gifted teacher at your child's school. The Word Master words and definitions are listed in the Word Masters file on this site. Department Links Hoagies' Gifted Education Page offers resources, articles, books and links for Parents, for Educators, Counselors, Administrators and other Professionals, and for Kids & Teens. The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) is an organization of parents, teachers, educators, other professionals, and community leaders who unite to address the unique needs of children and youth with demonstrated gifts and talents as well as those children who may be able to develop their talent potential with appropriate educational experiences.
